Mortgage warehouse lenders gathered in New York to learn about new approaches to mortgage fraud risk mitigation. As fraud continues to be disruptive and costly, senior executives joined to discuss this important issue with their peers.

Attendees heard about real experience from the FBI and their ability to identify and fight fraud. Our featured speaker this year was Scott Broshears, Supervisory Special Agent, Financial Crimes Section, Federal Bureau of Investigation. This informative presentation covered real life fraud experiences and the latest tools being used to fight mortgage fraud.

Stanley Street, President of SRG, went on to explain the new Warehouse Information NetworkSM. This new warehouse lenders collaborative provides fraud detection services, information sharing, centralized verification services, and a vehicle to collectively communicate with other industry groups (title companies, e-mortgage suppliers, etc).

Closing agents are the lynchpin to fraud and a material risk point to warehouse lenders. Tom Holland, SVP, Regions Funding lead a group discussion on the issues with closing agents and what measures can be taken to reduce this critical point of risk. The creation of a centralized closing agent validation service, current legal issues, and other needs of warehouse lenders in this area were discussed.

Following the presentations, a cocktail reception provided plenty of time for networking and enjoying the stunning views from the Rainbow Room on the 65th floor at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
